# Create and manage agents

Agents are the operational layer between your customers and Sayvy. Each agent has a purpose, instructions, and the tools it is allowed to use.

## Create an agent

1. Open **Agents** and select **Create agent**.
2. Give the agent a specific name and describe its job in one sentence.
3. Add clear instructions: tone, scope, required questions, and when to hand off.
4. Add only the integrations and tools it needs.
5. Test common, ambiguous, and out-of-scope requests before publishing.

## Make an agent production-ready

  <Card title="Define the boundary" icon="shield-check">State what the agent must not promise, change, or disclose.</Card>
  <Card title="Plan the handoff" icon="arrow-up-right">Tell the agent when to involve a person and what context to include.</Card>
  <Card title="Test edge cases" icon="flask-conical">Try missing information, interruptions, unhappy customers, and duplicate requests.</Card>
  <Card title="Review outcomes" icon="chart-no-axes-combined">Use inbox history and call logs to improve instructions.</Card>
</CardGroup>

<Warning>Do not give an agent access to a tool just because it is available. Keep permissions narrow and review them whenever its scope changes.</Warning>

For API-based workflows, see the [Agents API reference](/api-reference/agents/overview).
